Cabinet ministers have expressed concern over alleged rampant corruption activity at the Chiadzwa diamond mining area where law enforcement agents are allegedly facilitating entry of illegal panners and buyers into the protected area for a fee.
Speaking during the unveiling and construction of 128 graves that were exhumed from the Chiadzwa diamond mining concession, Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Dr Chris Mushohwe hit out at corrupt security officials manning the diamond hub who are reportedly fanning illicit deals by allowing illegal panners and dealers entry into the protected area.
Mines and Mining Development Minister, Cde Water Chidhakwa added his voice by challenging the security personnel to exercise the integrity that the local enforcement agents are reputed for and have received in international recognition for.
Headman Chiadzwa said the presence of illegal panners and buyers is a major concern to the locals who of late have witnessed increase in stock theft cases around Chiadzwa.
Government is capacitating the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company to ensure full scale diamond production resumes following a the crafting of a consolidated plan.
