The First Lady Amai Grace Mugabe has called on the corporate sector to support basketball as it is not only a sport that puts Zimbabwe on the map, but is also a source of employment.
Amai Mugabe was speaking at the end of the men Under 18 FIBA Basketball Zone 6 tournament in which Mozambique beat Zimbabwe narrowly by 77 baskets to 68 at the City Sports Centre in Harare Thursday evening.
Amai Mugabe who attended the tournament played over the last three days said despite the Zimbabwean teamâ€™s good performance it needs exposure to improve its showing at international tournaments such as the just-ended contest.
She called on the players to work as a team saying the good performance of the players will put Zimbabwe on the international sporting map.
Tinotenda Mugabe the son of the first family contributed several scores in the first part of play , drawing loud cheers from his mother,Â family members and other spectators who attended the game.
After the game Tinotenda also known as Robert Junior shared with others about his passion for basketball and some of his future plans about the sport.
The Zimbabwean basketball team was congratulated by Amai Mugabe who also presented them with US$1 300 each for their impressive performance in the tournament where they put up a tight contest against Mozambique, a team which has taken part several times at continental level.
