copac cde mangwana.jpgThe Constitution Select Committee (COPAC) has resumed the data uploading process after adjourning for a month and will move into the thematic committees’ stage next week following the disbursement of US$5 million to the constitution making process by treasury.

Copac Co-chairperson, Cde Munyaradzi Paul Mangwana said government had last released funds on the 21st of January last year and this year they had lost one and half months due to lack of resources.

He said the US$5 million is the only substantial amount that government has released to the constitution exercise and it will take them through to the drafting stage and settle arrears with service providers.

The data uploading process will only last up to the 14th of this month before the rapportuers move to the thematic committees’ stage.

COPAC Co-chairperson, Mr. Edward Mkhosi said they are geared up to enter into the next phase of the constitution making process as they have had an opportunity to get information from constitutional experts from the region.

The Constitution Select Committee which had earmarked September to be their referendum deadline confirmed that their plans have already been derailed as government and the donor community took time to release funds.
