The curtain came down on the 4 day long World Federation for Democratic Youths Conference amid praise for the progressive contributions by the youths from former liberation war movements.
Guest of honor at the regional summit closing ceremony Vice President General (Retired) Constantino Chiwenga who was represented by Minister of Defence and War Veterans Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri said the government of Zimbabwe is in support of youth initiatives which are aimed at protecting Africa’s identity and resources.
The African renaissance remains in safe hands and the dream of the founding fathers for the self determination and safeguarding land and resources for the development of the mother continent is guaranteed.
This is evidenced by the far reaching resolutions made at the just ended World Federation for Democratic Youths conference held under the theme, “For Unity, Development and Youth Empowerment”.
Vice president of the organisation Cde Naftali Kambungu read out the resolutions of the conference which include that Swahili be a mandatory subject at primary level in all African countries, acceptable of applications by Swaziland Communist Party, Zimbabwe National Youth Service Graduate Association, Zimbabwe Congress of Students Unions and Congolese Workers Party of Congo Brazzaville into the organisation and the call for Africa to explore the feasibility of adopting a single currency and a universal passport among other key resolutions.
In his closing remarks read on his behalf by Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri, Vice President Chiwenga hailed the youths for being custodians of the motherland’s resources.
The event was hosted by the Zanu PF Youth League and the delegates included, liberation movement youth organisations from the continent among them, ANC, SWAPO, Frelimo and the Saharawi People’s Republic Youth Movement.
