Consumers in Hwange have expressed outrage over exorbitant prices being charged on basic commodities in the resort town, calling for immediate government intervention.

Deputy Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs and Zanu PF National Political Commissar, Cde Victor Matemadanda descended on Hwange ,where he engaged consumers through an outreach programme dubbed ‘Connect With The People,’ with most of them expressing displeasure over the ever-soaring prices of basic commodities.

“We kindly implore you sir to come and have a look inside these supermarkets, the prices are a scary lot,” said one Hwange resident.

“we as vendors are singing the blues, prices for these small market stalls are honestly beyond the reach of many. It’s so painful,” said one vendor.

Cde Matemadanda said President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration is a listening government committed to addressing the concerns of the public.

“This programme is a fact-finding mission with an aim of appreciating what is troubling citizens. I am going to take these undoctored views up to the relevant ministries in government. Some of the living conditions, I saw here are totally appalling and unacceptable,” he said.

Government has rolled out a number of initiatives under the Transitional Stabilisation Programme to cushion the public from harsh economic developments.
