Construction work of the Police Protection Unit (PPU) housing project in Newlands, Harare, which was stalled for the past years, has resumed following a capital injection by the government.

Some flats have been completed and builders are putting final touches on other flats.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Mr George Magosvongwe said the housing project had stalled for years but after the government availed funding, the housing project is expected to be completed soon before being commissioned and handed over  to the tenants.

The completion of the PPU housing flats will provide accommodation to several police officers, who have been battling to get decent housing as the government moves on to deal with the housing backlog which stands at over 1,2 million people.
