Government has availed US$ 4 million for the constituency development fund and the money is ready for disbursement to the country’s 210 constituencies.
Constitutional and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Advocate Eric Matinenga said the funds are readily available and so far only two constituencies namely Bikita West and Mutare West have received the funds.
Advocate Matinenga said members of parliament should submit their applications and ensure that they get the money before the end of the year.
He said it will be unfair for the electorate if the money is returned to the treasury at the end of the financial year.
“The ministry has so far set up a committee to administer this fund, so far only two applicants have received the funds and we are encouraging house of assembly members to come forth and submit their applications,†said Mr. Matinenga.
The fund whose main thrust is to spearhead development in constituencies was introduced by Finance Minister, Mr Tendai Biti last year and US$8 million was set aside for this purpose in the 2010 budget with each constituency allocated US$50 000.
