This call was made by Member of the House of Assembly for Goromonzi West constituency, Mrs. Beatrice Nyamupinga who was the Guest of Honour at the Uzumba Agricultural Show.

The call for the government and the corporate world to increase support to communal farmers comes at a time when efforts are being made to improve productivity in the agricultural sector which is envisaged to grow by 18 per cent by year end according to the recent 2010 Mid Year Monetary Policy review statement.

Addressing thousands of people who attended the agricultural show, Cde Beatrice Nyamupinga said communal farmers must receive increased support given their remarkable contribution in the farming sector.

“We still need to stand strong and fight for increased support to communal farmers as they contribute immensely in the country’s agricultural sector.”

Representatives of farming organisations hailed the hosting of the Uzumba Agricultural Show as a means to promoting agriculture.

The show, which saw various displays in seed and farming techniques saw outstanding farmers scooping prices including ploughs, harrows, seed, fertilisers and chemicals.
