Commission Chairperson, Justice Rita Makarau says the recent addition of two female Judges – Justice Hlekani Mwayera and Justice Maria Zimba Dube – is a move towards addressing gender representation on the High Court bench.

It is also the expectations of gender activists that female judges would help address constitutional problems that are deemed not to be sensitive to women’s needs.

Zimbabwe is said to be one of few SADC countries that have made great strides in giving women decision making positions in accordance with the SADC protocol on gender and development.
