The Command Agriculture Programme has stimulated full productivity for many irrigation schemes in Chimanimani district and beneficiaries are already talking of a bumper harvest.
Most of the maize crop is healthy and at various stages with some on the verge of maturity.
One such irrigation scheme whose production has increased significantly is Nyanyadzi which has seen over 800 beneficiaries taking up the Command Agriculture initiative.
The farmers say the initiative came as a major relief as many farmers were failing to purchase agricultural inputs and fertilisers timeously.
The legislator for Chimanimani West Cde Nokuthula Matsikenyere said Command Agriculture has increased land productivity of all irrigation schemes.
This year expectations are that the country will realise improved food security through the initiative which has seen farmers receiving inputs and fertilisers.
