Farmers in Wedza North say the government should be commended for the command agriculture programme as it has improved production in farms.

Mr Mathew Jeure of Bolton farm in Wedza who hosted the district’s command agriculture field day at his farm believes the programme has resuscitated production levels which had gone down over the years due to failure to access inputs.

“Command agriculture has helped boost our production levels, we used to struggle to have two hectares but we are now using all our land,” he said.

Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Cde David Musabayana who attended the field day said the government will continue supporting command agriculture as it has shown that it has the capacity to reduce hunger starting at household level.

“Generally the farms in Wedza that are under command agriculture did very well which shows the success of the programme,” he said.

The farmer who is an A1 farmer had six hectares of maize under command agriculture and is expecting more than 10 tonnes per hectare.
