civil servants reps 20-07-11.jpgCivil servants say they feel betrayed by government following the failure by the  Minister of Public Service, Mrs Lucia Matibenga to turn up for a meeting with the civil service mother board, the Apex Council at her offices this Tuesday to discuss their salary review.

The civil servants representatives were kept waiting for more than three hours hoping that the Minister would turn up to address their plight, but alas, Mrs Matibenga failed to show up as she was reported to be in another meeting on the civil servants’ salaries with the Minister of Finance, Mr Tendai Biti.

The Principal Director in the Ministry of Public Service only identified as Mr Sisimayi arrived three hours later to inform the civil servants representatives that the Minister could not attend the meeting as promised.

Speaking to ZBC News in a telephone interview, the President for the Apex Council, Mrs Tendai Chikowore said they are left with no choice but to mobilise all the civil servants across the board to go on a one day strike on Thursday.

She added that they feel betrayed and neglected by their employer as the Minister’s failure to attend the meeting is a sign that the government is not taking their concerns seriously even after giving them a five day ultimatum.

On Wednesday last week, government requested for five days to engage other stakeholders on the issue after Minister Matibenga had failed to resolve the salary problem.
