Christians have been challenged to embrace peace and humility which was shown by Jesus Christ in his teachings as it is the only basis for a peaceful and successful nation.
The call was made by Archbishop Nobert Kunonga of the Anglican Church and Father Joseph Dandiro of the Roman Catholic Church in Harare during commemorations to mark Palm Sunday.
The call comes only a few days before Christians from across the globe celebrate Easter, which marks the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Thousands of Christians gathered and marched in the streets of Harare to celebrate Palm Sunday in commemoration of Jesus Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
They said they are reminded of the importance of peace which Jesus encouraged in his preaching.
Speaking during the Anglican Church Palm Sunday march, Archbishop Norbert Kunonga said Zimbabweans must uphold peace at all times as the Lord favours nations who live in peace.
Father Joseph Dandiro of the Roman Catholic Church also described Palm Sunday as a day which Jesus Christ also revealed his identity as the Messiah to the people and called on all humanity to humble themselves all the time.
Palm Sunday is one of the most important days in the Christian calendar.
The Bible records the arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem on a Sunday, riding a donkey, while the crowds spread their cloaks and palm branches on the street symbolising his humility and destiny.
