The High Court has postponed the bail application hearing for former finance minister Dr Ignatius Chombo and former Zanu PF youth leader Kudzanayi Chipanga.
Dr Chombo and Chipanga will spend this weekend in custody as the High Court has since set Tuesday next week as the date for the bail application hearing.
The postponement was successfully sought by the state which indicated they need more time to file their response adding they received the application late to prepare a response for today’s proceedings.
The two, who are facing different charges, are represented by Professor Lovemore Madhuku who argued that the magistrates misdirected themselves in denying bail for the two accused persons.
The state had indicated that the two would abscond if admitted to bail and had the capacity to interfere with witnesses.
Chombo is facing charges of abuse of office and corruption dating back to the time he was Local Government Minister while Chipanga is facing charges of publishing falsehoods or alternatively causing disaffection among members of the defence forces.
