Health and Child Care Minister Dr David Parirenyatwa says the cholera outbreak has remained confined to Chegutu and the ministry is monitoring the whole country to ensure the problem is kept under control.

In an interview with ZBC in Harare today, Minister Parirenyatwa said although there are 70 suspected cases the exact number of people who are admitted due to cholera is two at Chegutu.

He said the situation remains stable and the Ministry of Health is on high alert to ensure the epidemic does not spread undetected.

Minister Parirenyatwa encouraged residents to exercise strict hygiene and adhere to advice of consuming food from designated safe places and eat it whilst still hot and avoid fruits that are eaten without peeling such as mangoes.

He also advised Zimbabweans to take swift action as soon as they experience diarrhoea, saying centres are open to deal with the cholera challenge countrywide.

Cholera is a caused by ingesting the vibrio cholera bacteria found in faecal matter and spread thru contaminated food or water.
