The government has instituted various measures like tightening border controls, dispatching rapid response teams and stepping up awareness campaigns on public transport travelling to neighbouring Zambia and Malawi as part of efforts to ensure that cholera does not spread to Zimbabwe following an outbreak in Zambia.

The Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr David Parirenyatwa said adequate resources have also been mobilised to contain any outbreaks as the number of people who are succumbing to the deadly disease continues to rise in Zambia.

So far no cases of cholera have been recorded in the country.

By January 10, at least 2905 cholera cases had been recorded in Zambia since the disease broke out in October last year, according to the Lusaka Times of Zambia.
