A dark cloud has engulfed the Sunningdale suburb in Harare following the explosion of a fuel tank in the suburb.Local Government, Rural and Urban Development Minister, Dr Ignatius Chombo has visited the scene of the accident which is feared to have a claimed an unknown number of lives.
Three people have been confirmed dead and their names have since been released by the police.
However, the total number of people who died in the inferno are not known as there are others who are believed to have been burnt to ashes.
More than 16 others were seriously injured.
Upon visiting the scene of the accident, Dr Chombo appealed to motorists to abide by the set road traffic regulations.
He noted with concern the misfortunes that befell victims of the fuel tank explosion whilst urging members of the public to desist from engaging in dangerous practices.
ZBC News caught up with an eyewitness at the scene of the accident who narrated the horrific story.
Police have called on members of the public to desist from the culture of looting and have since appealed to people in Sunningdale and other areas whose relatives are missing to come forward and report.
