chitungwiza town council.jpgChitungwiza Municipal workers  have once again embarked on an industrial action to compel management to pay salary arrears  for 5 months as dictated by the labor court.

Chairman of the workers union, Nyikadzino Matsikidze accused the management of being insensitive to the workers plight.

According to Mr. Matsikidze the municipality was supposed to have paid them their salary arrears by the 25th of September as ruled by the labour court.

“They should give us our money, we have worked for it we have families to look after…  we are gathered here to demanded an explanation why we have not received our payment,” said some wokers.
Meanwhile ,embers of the Zano Remba Housing Cooperative also demonstrated at the Municipality Offices accusing the Housing Director of corruption in the allocation of stands.

The Zano Remba Housing Cooperative members said a full council meeting on the 5th  of August resolved to give them leases for their stands as they had already started receiving bills for their stands.

However it is alleged that the Housing Director, Jemina Gumbo demanded that the residents must pay US$5 000 before they are given leases, a figure which residents feel is beyond their reach.
“We cannot afford to get the required amount by Jemina, these cooperatives are meant to help the poor. It’s surprising that Jemina is issuing stands allocated to our cooperatives to outsiders,” said some residents.
The Chitungwiza Municipality has been bedeviled with problems of late and recently some senior officials were assaulted by members of the public accusing them of corruption and underhand dealings.

Management could not be reached for comment as they were said to be out of office.
