With only a few days before Christmas, families for Chitungwiza Council employees are bound to have a gloomy day as they have not received both their November and December salaries.

Business came to a halt at the Chitungwiza Municipal Council as angry employees embarked on a demonstration calling for the immediate dismissal of the Town Clerk, Mr. Godfrey Tanyanyiwa.

The workers allege they have not received salaries for two months and are accusing the Town Clerk and his management of being corrupt and incompetent.

The workers also blamed the Town Clerk of using his powers to convert Council funds for his personal use and neglecting the plight of workers.

Contacted for comment, Chitungwiza Town Clerk, Mr. Godfrey Tanyanyiwa said he could not comment as he is currently in Bulawayo.

Only last week, Chitungwiza Town Council was in the news after it was convicted of three offences related to polluting the environment.

The council was fined US$14 000 by the Environmental Management Agency.
