Newly registered ZIFA Eastern Region division one side Chitungwiza City FC says it is in the league to fight for honours and want to proceed to the premier league within the shortest possible time.

After having gone for years without a team in the premier league despite supplying a number of players in the domestic premiership the Chitungwiza community has teamed up to have a community club to realise their dream of having a dominant team with roots in the dormitory town.

Team coach Solomon Mudavhanhu and club chairman Joseph Chakavarika say the team is going to be a permanent feature on the country’s football calendar.

The team has also roped in music legends from Chitungwiza as their patrons namely Baba Mechanic Manyeruke, Madzibaba Nicholas Zacharia and Alick Macheso who will help in resource mobilisation and marketing.

The musicians said it was an anomaly that a town that has produced great footballers like Lloyd Chitembwe, Norman Mapeza, Alois Bunjira and Stewart Murisa among others does not have a team in the premier league.

The team which will be using Chibuku Stadium as its home ground has former premier league side Devchem owner Mr Kuziva Mushapaidze as the president while former warriors defender John Phiri is the general manager.

The club also has some experienced players in the form of former Chapungu and Caps United player Edmore Chafungamoyo, former Gunners and Harare City player Arnold Chaka who also had a stint at Mochudi Centre Chiefs of Botswana and Artwell Nyamiwa formerly ZPC Kariba and Lengthens FC player.
