The people of Chiredzi have defended their vote saying they came out in their numbers as they were charmed by the President-elect Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa and the Zanu PF party’s manifesto which was mainly centred on development and improving their livelihoods.
The residents, farmers, youths and the business community in Chiredzi said they were charmed by Cde Mnangagwa’s eight months in office and his vision for the country which brought hope for the future hence they turned out in their thousands to give him a fresh tenure in office.
For the youths, the ‘Zimbabwe is open for the business’ mantra backed by results as investors were starting to show interests was enough to convince them that the man means his words.
For an ordinary Chiredzi resident, they were not worried about spaghetti roads and airports at their doorsteps but rather bread and butter issues and quality social service delivery which they are hoping for under the new dispensation is what they want.
Chiredzi’s economy is centred on agriculture specifically sugar and cotton production, issues that President Mnangagwa had already begun working on, ensuring farmers gain full productivity and self sustenance.
In Chiredzi, Zanu PF won all the four constituencies with Chiredzi North topping the record of voters.
