Preparations for the 38th Heroes and Defence Forces Day commemorations are already underway in Chiredzi with the event expected to be unique following a Zanu PF victory in the just ended harmonised elections.
Every August the country pays respect to the former freedom fighters by commemorating Heroes Day and for this year’s event, preparations are now in full swing in Chiredzi.
The district committee responsible for state functions met this Monday and their reports revealed that preparations were moving well with all the resources needed now in place.
The committee’s chairperson Ms Memory Dhliwayo expressed hope that the spirit of peace and unity displayed so far by the people of Chiredzi even after the harmonised elections will continue to prevail for the success of the event.
“We are looking forward to a successful event as you can see we are ready for the event. All our stakeholders have been here for our second last meeting to give their reports which all indicated that almost everything is now in place. The people of Chiredzi are peaceful and they value such events so we are looking forward to gather here in our numbers at Chitsanga grounds to commemorate the day,” said Ms Dhliwayo.
This year’s celebrations to be held next Monday are going to be unique as they come right after the July harmonised elections which saw President-elect Emmerson Mnangagwa being given a mandate to lead the nation.
