Chipinge Junior Soccer Academy have been crowned champions of the Herentals tournament after beating five other contestants in matches played this Saturday at Gaza stadium in Chipinge.

Formed in 2011, Chipinge Junior Soccer Academy clinched the title after defeating finalists Gabbana FC 4-2 in a penalty shoot in the inaugural Herentals College tournament.

The team won despite adverse weather conditions which resulted in the disruption of some matches.

Losing finalists Gabbana FC commended the participating teams for exhibiting high football skills at the tournament.

Guest of honour at the tournament and former schools provincial head in charge of soccer in Manicaland, Joseph Machuwaire, underscored the need for the corporate world to support football in Chipinge.

Tournament representative of the organisers Tinashe Muneta expressed her organisation’s commitment to social responsibility programmes.

“The tournament is part of the private schools’ corporate social responsibility programme. We hope to grow the tournament to greater heights,” said Muneta.

Football in Chipinge lacks support and the coming on board of sponsors is expected to develop the world’s most popular sport in the district.
