eye surgery equip.jpgChinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Chin Shungkang has donated to the country eye cataract surgery equipment.

The donated equipment, which had been used by a group of Chinese doctors who were carrying out eye cataract operations at Chitungwiza Central Hospital for the past few weeks under the Bright Journey Eye Camp, will be used by the military hospital.

Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, General Constantine Chiwenga and Defence Minister, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa witnessed the handover ceremony at State House in Harare.

The Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe thanked the Chinese people for their help in the health sector saying the sector has been hard-hit by sanctions leading to health institutions’ failure to buy new equipment.

“So the donation of medical equipment is welcome as this juncture as we are working very hard to try and improve the status of our hospitals,” said President Mugabe.

The Bright Journey Eye Camp, a brain child of Beijing Tongren Hospital and Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Defence, has seen over 800 people benefitting from free cataract surgery at Chitungwiza Central Hospital.
