chinese_new_year_celebrations.jpgThe Chinese community in Zimbabwe today joined their counterparts in the rest of the world in commemorating their new year amid indications that the Asian economic giant will invest more into sectors of the countrys economy.

This Monday January 23 marks the New Year according to the Chinese calendar.

In Zimbabwe, the celebrations to mark the Chinese New Year were launched this Friday at Africa Unity Square in Harare and will go

on for the next fifteen days.

The celebrations were punctuated by various displays from Chinese firms operating in the country together with locals cementing

the existing relations between the two countries.

In an interview on the sidelines of the event, Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr. Xin Shunkang said several investment projects are lined up which are set to play a critical role towards achieving the envisaged economic growth.

The public commemoration is the first since the settling of Chinese people in Zimbabwe marking the growth of the Far East community which has established strong business interests in the country.

China has established strong business ties with Zimbabwe in the last 10 years amid indications that the Chinese want to increase more investments in all sectors of the economy. For the Chinese, 2012 which officially begins on January 23 has been dubbed Year of The Dragon.
