Child marriages, early pregnancies and child abuse dominated proceedings at the official opening of the Mashonaland East provincial child parliament at Mrewa centre.

Child President, Sharon Kapfudza officially opened the provincial child parliament session and expressed concern over the increasing cases of child marriages and early pregnancies as well as abuse of children in Zimbabwe.

Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Rtd Brigadier General Ambrose Mutinhiri was among high ranking officials who called for stiffer penalties to perpetrators of child abuse and child marriages.

The child parliament session also afforded members of the public, who have never been to parliament, an opportunity to experience what transpires in the august house.
