A local child rights organisation has described the rate of abuse of minors as worrisome.
Childline Zimbabwe Director, Stella Motsi said the organisation receives over 50 000 calls in the form of child abuse alerts per month, a figure she said is worrisome.
“Remote areas need to be provided with a better platform to also interface with the organisation. Every community has to be reached so as to offer service to as many children as possible,” she said.
According to Motsi, Childline is negotiating with one of the mobile network service providers so that they give children friendly phones preloaded with child protection information.
The Zimbabwean government ratified several international instruments on child protection and welfare.
Meanwhile, Childline Zimbabwe celebrated 20 years of existence in Chinhoyi where the organisation also hosted a fund raising dinner.
