Female inmates at Chikurubi Maximum Prison today received free eye treatment and cervical cancer screening, courtesy of Mushamukadzi charity organisation.
Driven by the desire to see healthy inmates, Mushamukadzi charity organisation this Tuesday descended at the prison with some health personnel for the medial programme.
In his address, Mushamukadzi representative, Dr Mathius Mukona urged inmates to have regular health check-ups.
“The past decade has seen a surge in the number of women dying due to cervical cancer and related diseases, hence the need for early detection of cervical cancer,” he said.
Some of the inmates, who spoke to the ZBC News, thanked the Mushamukadzi team, which is headed by Mrs Mary Chiwenga for coming up with such a programme.
