The government has assured traditional leaders that it has concluded the payment of all the 226 Isuzu double cab vehicles it procured for use by chiefs in their various jurisdictions.

Officiating at the chiefs’ conference in Bulawayo today, Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Cde Savior Kasukuwere told traditional leaders that substantive chiefs will start receiving their vehicles once the other batches of the vehicles are in the country.

Unlike in previous schemes where traditional leaders would contribute some money towards the vehicle payment, Cde Kasukuwere said this time around government has paid all the expenses to lessen the burden on the country’s traditional leadership.

Meanwhile, several traditional leaders have queried the criteria being used to distribute the farming inputs under the Presidential Input Scheme arguing that they should be given space in the process.

The two day chief’s conference seeks discuss some of the problems that affect traditional leaders in executing their duties in the areas of their jurisdiction.
