Chemhanza Secondary School emerged champions of the inaugural edition of the National Eye Gutu High School invitational soccer tournament held in Masvingo over the weekend.Chemhanza overcame bitter rivals Pamushana to become champions of Masvingo province.
The two teams fought tooth and nail in regulation time and the match had to be decided by the dreaded penalty shoot-out.
The Chemhanza players came out tops showing great composure and good ball striking ability en route to winning the decisive penalty shootout 5-3.
Gutu Highâ€™s Tendai Mahachi emerged as player of the tournament and the award secured him a three week attachment at South African giants Ajax Cape Town.
Former Warriors midfielder, Edzai Kasinauyo who was the guest of honour was impressed with the talent on exhibition and emphasized the need to search for talent in all parts of the country.
A representative of the sponsor, Trevor Jakachira echoed Kasinauyoâ€™s sentiments that talent is not only confined to the major cities.
The inaugural edition of the National Eye Gutu Invitational soccer tournament saw six school teams from Masvingo province taking part namely: Chemhanza, Dewure, Pamushana, Zimuto, Domborembavha and hosts Gutu High School taking part.
21 outstanding players were selected from the tournament and will form part the Reinhard Fabisch Academy which is being set up in memory of the former Warriors coach who passed away a few years ago.
