Veteran politician and former freedom fighter Cde Solomon Marembo has died.

He was 81.

Cde Marembo died at his home in Waterfalls Harare this Thursday after a long battle with cancer.

He was one of few cadres left who were at the Lancaster House talks during the peak of the liberation struggle.

Cde Marembo served as combined Harare-Mashonaland East Province Zanu PF chairman in the late 70s up until 1980.

He was Zanu PF National Consultative Assembly member for Masvingo Province up until his death.

Family spokesperson David Tuhwe said burial arrangements will be announced in due course as the Masvingo leadership has recommended the late freedom fighter to be declared a national hero.

Mourners are gathered at number 546 Montgomery Drive Prospect, Waterfalls.

Cde Marembo is survived by wife Natalie and six children.
