Media, Information and Publicity Minister, Cde Webster Shamu has applauded media bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and the Peopleâ€™s Republic of China.
Cde Shamu said this at commemorations to mark Xinhua News Agencyâ€™s 80th anniversary, which was also a first since the installation of the Giant Silver Screen in Harareâ€™s first street.
Minister Shamu said the event marked an important milestone in the promotion of friendship and cooperation between Zimbabwe and China in the media fraternity.
“Xinhua News Agency and the first anniversary of the installation of the giant screen in Harare’s First Street is a momentus occasion as we celebrate the excellent relations between Zimbabwe and China,” said Cde Shamu.
The visiting Chinese Communist Party (CPC) Central Committee memberÂ and Head of Publicity in the CPC, Mr Liu Yunshan said the celebrations are a reminder that Zimbabwe and China share strong bilateral relations also necessitated by a desire to empower their people through accurate information that curtails WesternÂ propaganda which always portrays both nations in bad light.
Xinhua News Agency set up a giant screen in Harareâ€™s First Street in collaboration with a local company Transmedia.
The agency established its Harare bureau when Zimbabwe attained independence in 1980 and now boasts of over 50 institutional subscribers in the country.
