Addressing members of the Friends of the Environment at Kushinga/Pikelela, Dr Sekeramayi said it is every Zimbabweanâ€™s responsibility to ensure that they take part in planting and conserving trees.
He said there is need for every tobacco farmer to have a wood lot at his or her farm.
A member of the Friends for the Environment, Mr Francis Tamburai said the walkathon from Harare to Mutare will raise awareness on the challenges the country faces if it continues cutting down trees.
1 000 trees have been planted in Bromely and Kushinga/Pikelela since the walkathon began on Sunday.
The walkathon is expected to end in Mutare on the 2nd of next month.
