The late Cde Wiler Nyere who was declared a provincial hero was buried at Harare Provincial Heroes Acre today with a full military honour.

Scores of relatives, friends and colleagues gathered at Harare Provincial Heroes Acre to bid farewell to the late Cde Nyere who died on the 5th of this month.

Cde Nyere was born on the 20th of September 1939 in Chandiwana village, in Seke.

Due to the escalating oppression by the colonial regime, Cde Nyere joined Zanu PF as a youth activist to fight against brutal racism.

In 1965 he was among the youths who went around and destroyed white settlers’ properties in Seke and it is against this background that he was arrested in the same year and detained at Hwahwa Prison until 1967.

The Deputy Director in the Harare Metropolitan Province Mr Ignatious Mungure described the late Cde Nyere as a dedicated Zanu PF party cadre who remained loyal to the party until his time of death.

“Cde Nyere was a dedicated cadre who participated in the youth activism to fight against the Smith regiment,” he said.
