The late Cde Jane Magwenga who died on Monday and was accorded liberation war hero status has been buried at the Harare Provincial Heroes Acre.

The late Cde Magwenga whose Chimurenga name was Cde Venencia Magamba has been described as a true cadre who fought tirelessly to liberate this country. 

Family spokesperson Mr Benson Sioniya described his sister as a unifier both in party politics and in her family.

Director in the Minister of State for Harare Province Mr Ignatius Mungure said the rich history of Cde Magwenga reflects a true cadre who worked hard to see her country liberated from the colonial bondage.

Born in 1960 in Chimanimani Manicaland Province, Cde Magwenga went to Tilbury Primary School.

She was exposed to politics at a young age when she crossed to Mozambique in 1975.

She received her military training at Pungwe specialising in guerrilla warfare and war nursing and operated as a medic under Detachment B in Buhera.

At independence she was attested into the Zimbabwe National Army until her retirement in 1983 before joining the Ministry of Health as a medical assistant in Mashonaland East Province.

She is survived by 4 children and 4 grandchildren.
