Cde John Madzivanyika, who died on the 29th of December last year and was accorded liberation war hero status was buried yesterday in Harare.
The late liberation war hero whose Chimurenga name was Cde John Marufu was laid to rest at the Harare Provincial Heroes Acre with mourners describing him as a dedicated cadre who remained committed to further national interests before and after independence.
The deputy director in the office of the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Harare Metropolitan, Mr Ignatius Mungure, representing Minister Miriam Chikukwa said Cde Madzivanyika remained resolute in support of the Zanu PF ideology.
Born in 1954, the late Cde Madzivanyika joined the liberation struggle in 1976 in Mozambique.
He experienced and survived the 1977 Chimoio massacre where he escaped with serious injuries.
He was later deployed in Tanzania for further military training and on completion of his training he was deployed to Tete Province.
Cde Madzivanyika rose to the position of a Detachment Commander and after independence he joined the Zimbabwe National Army.
After his retirement he worked for several companies and participated in Zanu PF and war veterans’ association activities.
He is survived by his wife Viola Mufunda and six children.
