Cde Killion Hlatshwayo who died last Saturday and was declared a liberation war hero was buried this Friday (yesterday) at the Harare Provincial Heroes Acre with full military honours.
Cde Hlatshwayo joined the armed struggle in 1970 and received military training in Tanzania and later operated in Chirundu area.
Speaking during the burial, representing the Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province Cde Miriam Chikukwa, the Deputy Director Mr Ignatius Mungure said Cde Hlatswayo encountered fiercest battles with the Rhodesian forces in 1979 of fighting side-by-side with one of his family members.
Mr Mungure also described Cde Hlatswayo as a brave man who witnessed the death of his younger brother who was shot in the battle.
“During the course of battle of the war, he encountered series of battles with the Rhodesian forces in 1979. The late Cde Killion was with his young brother who was shot and killed in the battle. Killion also sustained injury in the right hand through a gun shot from the enemy,” he said.
In 1986 he joined the then Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare as a labour officer until his retirement in 2008.
He leaves behind his wife, Janet and four children.
