cde rugare gumbo 30-07-10.jpgZanu-PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Cde Rugare Gumbo, says the decision to erect two statues of the late Father Zimbabwe, Dr Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo, one in Harare and the other in Bulawayo was taken by the Party’s Plitiburo sometime ago, in consultation with the family.

Addressing a media briefing in Harare, Cde Gumbo said the exact sites where the statues will be erected were left to the Ministry of Home Affairs as the responsible authority for National Museums and Monuments.

Cde Gumbo dismissed the latest misrepresentation of facts by the private media on the matter, saying it is a way of gaining popularity.

“The latest hullabaloo by the so called Independent press on the matter is an effort done by malcontents who want to gain cheap political mileage using the name of our revered and iconic leader, Father Zimbabwe Dr Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo,” said Cde Gumbo.

Responding to the issue of a court order in favour of the Mining Industry Pension Fund (MIPF) barring the erection of the statue at Karigamombe centre in Harare, Cde Gumbo said Zanu PF is aware of the development and they are now studying the judgement.
