The late Cde Patrick Gatsi who passed away on the 12th of this month was buried yesterday at Glen Forest Cemetery.
Born in 1934 at Magadu village in Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe, Cde Gatsi was among the cadres who pioneered the formation of Zimbabwe Ex-Political Prisoners, Detainees and Restrictees Association (ZEPPDRA).
During the colonial regime he was tortured, detained and kept under guard at Gonakudzingwa Prison until 1968.
Representing the Minister of Harare Metropolitan Province, Cde Miriam Chikukwa, deputy director Mr Ignatius Mungure said the nation has lost a nationalist who played a great role in the fight for independence.
“He underwent abdominal operation which resulted in subsequent operations due to extreme torture and harassment in prison,” said Minister Chikukwa.
Family representatives said both the nation and the family have lost a man who supported and remained committed to the ruling Zanu PF party.
Cde Gatsi worked in Zanu PF and ZEPPEDRA where he carried out advisory roles as a senior cadre.
