ephraim masawi 16-09-10 ed.jpgThe ZANU-PF Deputy National Political Commissar, Cde Ephraim Masawi, has died. He was 61.

 

The announcement was made by the ZANU-PF National Political Commissar, Cde Webster Shamu, who is also the Minister of Media, Information and Publicity.

 

Cde Masawi died at the Avenues Clinic in Harare this morning, after suffering from blood cancer.

 

Minister Shamu said the late Cde Masawi was a consistent, dedicated and an uncompromising cadre in terms of the principles of the struggle.

 

He said Cde Masawi played a crucial role in the recruitment of cadres for the liberation struggle especially in Harare.

   

After Independence, Cde Masawi participated in the organisation of the ZANU-PF Youth league and was also instrumental in the formation of the 21st February Movement.

 

He held various positions in the ZANU-PF party and government.

 

Cde Masawi was once a legislator and also the Governor and Resident Minister for Mashonaland Central Province.

 

He lives behind a wife, Perpetua and five children.

 

Mourners are gathered at Pasango farm in Bindura in Mashonaland Central province.

 

Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
