Cde Caston Chibanda whose Chimurenga name was Cde John Chimbandi, who died last week Saturday in Harare and was declared a national hero will be buried at the National Heroes Acre tomorrow.

Gallant son of the soil Cde Chimbandi, former Consul General to Beira, Mozambique was declared a national hero after a request from the Zanu PF Mashonaland East Province.

His body was flown to his Cloverly farm in Banket today before it was flown back to Harare where it will lie in state ahead of its burial tomorrow.

Cde Chimbandi was a career diplomat who served in several African and overseas countries.

He joined the liberation struggle in 1973 and assumed several senior posts.

He joined the then Ministry of Foreign Affairs at independence as assistant secretary prior to his posting to diplomatic missions.

Cde Chimbandi retired from service last year.

He suffered a stroke some 34 years ago which could have led to his death.

Meanwhile, 43 buses have been availed to ferry mourners countrywide for the burial of the late national hero tomorrow.

The Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province Cde Miriam Chikukwa urged Zimbabweans to come early and in their numbers.

Cde Chimbandi died on the second this month at Arundel Clinic in the capital after battling chest pains for some time.   

He is survived by three daughters and one grandson.
