cde betty chikava.jpgMount Darwin East Legislator and Zanu-PF Central Committee Member Cde Betty Chikava has died, she was 69.

Cde Chikava succumbed to diabetes this morning at Shashe hospital in Bindura where she was admitted on Monday.

Cde Chikava was born at Ndoro village in Goromonzi and did her primary education at Howard school and secondary education through correspondence before training as a nurse.

She joined Zanu in 1963 engaging in youth activities and was very active during the liberations struggle providing material support to freedom fighters and at independence held several positions in Mashonaland Central Zanu-PF party structures.

Cde Chikava is survived by husband Thompson, 5 children and 11 grand children

Mourners are gathered at house number one Musvosvi Street in Bindura.

Burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
