Women in Masvingo rural are taking a lead in command livestock after embarking on an ambitious cattle rearing project which is expected to expand over time.
In their endeavour to better their lives and become financially independent, women in Masvingo North came together and raised funds which they used to build kraals and hereafter purchased cattle for fattening.
The women who run Kuronga Club purchased 8 beasts and are planning to expand their herd using proceeds from the first batch.
“We have decided to do something to sustain our families rather than just wait for our husbands. We are hopeful our project will grow bigger,” said Mrs Evelyn Mufudza, one of the project members.
Masvingo Minister of State Cde Josiah Hungwe said with prospects of re-opening of the Cold Storage Company in Masvingo high, such ventures as the one started by the women will ensure there is enough supply of beasts to the company.
“We want people to engage in business. The Cold Storage Company will soon be resuscitated. We are just waiting for the President to come and see the facilities at the CSC and after that we are hopeful it will be re-opened,” Cde Hungwe said.
Zanu PF Central Committee member Cde Clemence Makwarimba, who also visited the in the ability of women to succeed in any business venture, once they put their mind to it.
The women underwent a training course in cattle rearing and were presented with certificates by Cde Hungwe.
