ConCourt holds pre-trial meeting

Parties to the election petition by the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa met today at the Constitutional Court Registry to consolidate the record in preparation for the hearing of the challenge on Wednesday. The pre-trial meeting saw litigants with the help of justice officers defining the issues and determining the way the actual contestation will proceed. The meeting was also held in compliance with an order issued last week by Chief Justice Luke Malaba at a case management meeting held in his chambers. The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has granted the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), the rights to broadcast live the proceedings of the Constitutional Court hearing involving the electoral challenge to the results of the 2018 presidential elections held on the 30th of July 2018, by the MDC Alliance. The Constitutional Court of Zimbabwe will preside over the electoral challenge by MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa next week Wednesday the 22nd of August after the Chief Justice and the parties held a case management meeting this morning. The Zanu PF legal team for President-elect Emmerson Mnangagwa has successfully filed opposing papers challenging the application lodged by the MDC Alliance.
