Chombo, Chipanga bail ruling deferred

The High Court has postponed the bail application hearing for former finance minister Dr Ignatius Chombo and former Zanu PF youth leader Kudzanayi Chipanga. Dr Chombo and Chipanga will spend this weekend in custody as the High Court has since set Tuesday next week as the date for the bail application hearing. The postponement was successfully sought by the state which indicated they need more time to file their response adding they received the application late to prepare a response for today’s proceedings. Rapist (19) jailed 7 years

A nineteen year old Bulawayo man who appeared in court for allegedly raping a 57-year old woman has been sentenced to seven years in jail. Three years of his sentence were suspended for five years on condition that he is not convicted of rape whilst the other four are effective. According to the state prosecutor Tinashe Dzipe, the accused Mandlenkosi Phiri followed the victim, attacked her, stripped her naked and raped her. Former Finance Minister, Dr Ignatius Chombo and former Zanu PF Secretary for Youth Affairs, Kudzanayi Chipanga have been denied bail and will remain in custody after being  remanded to December 8 this year. Dr Chombo appeared before Harare magistrate, Mr Elisha Singano, while Chipanga appeared before magistrate, Ms Josephine Sande.
