Two arrested after commuter murder

Two people have been arrested so far as the police track down touts involved in Tuesday’s assault that led to the death of a traveller, Mr Matheas Gore, at the illegal pick up point for Mutare buses near Road Port in Harare. A survey by the ZBC News revealed that errant long distance buses were still picking up commuters despite the ultimatum banning the terminus. Harare man killed by touts

A Harare man was this morning killed by touts at an illegal bus terminus near Fourth Street. Police have since closed the illegal pick up point and instigated a search to catch the errant touts. In an act of blatant lawlessness, the man died after being assaulted by touts at an illegal pick up point for Mutare buses near Road Port. An eye witness said the touts manhandled the defenceless man who was in the company of his wife before assaulting him. Bond coins leak suspect charged

A 32-year-old Gweru man who leaked photos of a consignment invoice of bond coins from South Africa last week has appeared in court charged for contravening the Official Secrets Act. Tinashe Sikwila, who is employed as a driver by a South African company, Prestige Carriers appeared before Harare magistrate, Ms Josphine Sande yesterday for allegedly taking pictures of the consignment invoice, which ended up circulating on social media. State prosecutor, Mr Sebastian Mutizirwa told the court that on 20 September this year, the accused was assigned to be part of the team escorting two trunks of Zimbabwean bond coins from South Africa as his employer was contracted by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) to escort the money. The court heard that the accused as an employee was entrusted in confidence to provide total maximum security in escorting the money. It is alleged that during the collection of the bond coins from where they were printed, the accused person took a photograph of the commercial invoice and posted it through whatsapp to his friends. On the same day, the invoice and the amount of money started circulating on social media, thereby discrediting the security of the escorting team and the government of Zimbabwe. Prof. Moyo’s ZACC arrest challenge crumbles

The Constitutional Court has dismissed Professor Jonathan Moyo’s application challenging the legality of his arrest by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC). The challenge emanates from the Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Minister’s arrest by ZACC officers last year on allegations of abuse of office, fraud, corrupt concealment from a principal of personal interests in a transaction, and obstruction of the course of justice. The government says collapse of some state enterprises and parastatals is as a result of fraudulent activities by the boards of some institutions.
