Cash shortages and the use of plastic money have adversely affected beggars operating from the streets of Harare.

There is a Shona adage which goes: ‘Hapachina Chembwa, Tenzi Vararira Mutakura,’ meaning that it is impossible for someone to make a donation, when they have nothing to offer.

This was the story of street beggars who were left out of the electric and merry making atmosphere that characterised this festive season.

While many people enjoyed the New Year and Christmas holidays, street dwellers blamed cash shortages and the use of plastic money for their poor fortunes during such a time most people are generous enough to donate.

Long winding queues at different banks explains the hell Zimbabweans are going through in accessing few dollars from the banks.
