The comments by the small scale miners’ representative organisation comes at a time the fiscal authorities are in the progress of gathering inputs for the forthcoming Mid- term budget.

Zimbabwe Miners’ Federation of Zimbabwe National Chairman Mr. Edzayi Kufandarerwa said apart from enhancing expertise in mining, it is also important that the fiscal authorities adopt a mechanisation programme to assist small scale miners.

“We think it is critical that the fiscal authorities adopt a mechanisation programme for small scale miners much just the same as we did with the farm mechanisation programme,”said Mr. Kufandarerwa.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Explorers and Small Scale Miners Association National Chairman Mr. Hardwork Mukwanda hailed the formalised diamond mining in Chiadzwa which he said is critical in ensuring that the country achieves the anticipated growth in the sector.

“We are hopeful that the introduction by the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development of a more formalised mining in Chiadzwa is critical in ensuring that the mining industry attains the projected growth rates,”said Mr. Mukwanda.

The local mining industry which is anticipated to play a critical role in the resurgence of the local economy is still faced with lack of liquidity and power outages ,a situation which has slowed the growth of the sector.
