Zanu PF Chairperson, Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo has warned the party leadership attending the 11th National People’s Conference currently under way in Mutare against imposing candidates for elections to be held mid next year.
The warning come in the wake of a strong belief that factionalism and disunity in Zanu PF led to a poor showing in the 2008 elections.
Ambassador Moyo also cited corruption as another factor that led to the poor showing of the ruling party among other reasons.
He emphasised the need for the party leadership to listen to the people and be in touch with them to ensure a resounding victory in next year’s polls.
Cde Moyo however pointed out that prospective candidates should meet minimum requirements to ensure that they are competent and effective in parliament.
He also thanked the party members for the role they played during the COPAC outreach meetings, saying that momentum should be maintained in preparation for next year’s pending elections.
