The visiting football agent Rayco Garcia has described the country as an attractive tourists’ destination and has challenged the nation to promote sports tourism as part of a strategy to unlock the full potential of the domestic tourism industry.
The Spanish football agent Rayco Garcia and Barcelona legend Edgar Davids visited the country’s premier tourist’s destination Victoria Falls on Sunday (today) as part of their tour of Zimbabwe.
The duo said there were excited to have viewed the spectacular and breathtaking waterfall and pledged to market the destination back in Europe.
Garcia said Zimbabwe remains hospitable and an attractive destination contrary to negative media reports and challenged the nation to explore sports tourism as a critical avenue in unlocking the full potential of the tourism industry.
Garcia reaffirmed that a Barcelona legends team featuring some of the celebrated football stars who include Ronaldinho and Rivaldo will be coming to Zimbabwe in November.
Going forward Garcia said there are a lot of opportunities which Spain and Zimbabwe can explore in the development of football as well as tourism.
R.G Sport Solutions executives who were accompanying the duo said they are satisfied with the positive response from the visiting Barcelona legends and are optimistic of engaging other celebrated soccer stars to visit the majestic Victoria Falls as part of efforts to promote brand Zimbabwe.
Spain is one of the European countries which is benefiting from a vibrant sports tourism industry.
According to a study a few years ago, a total of 10.3 million international tourists arrived in Spain for sporting purposes in 2014, representing a 9.57 percent increase over 2013.
